Energy audit

All non-SMEs – companies not covered by the UN definition of small and medium-sized enterprises – were required by the Energy Services Act (EDL-G) to carry out their first energy audit by December 2015. Subsequent energy audits have to be carried out every four years. Alternatively, these companies may introduce an energy management system compliant with ISO 50001 or an eco-management and audit scheme (EMAS). For small and medium-sized companies, an independent (non-EDL-G) energy audit can certainly prove worthwhile, especially as they must prove that they have carried out an energy audit if they want to claim maximum exemption from electricity and energy tax.

The aim of an energy audit is to increase a company’s energy efficiency. Based on an analysis of the company’s current energy efficiency status, a DIN EN 16247-1 energy audit establishes and suggests ways of improving the energy efficiency of technical installations, devices and processes, taking due account of the operating conditions involved.

Höppner Management & Consultant GmbH has many years of experience in undertaking energy audits. You can rely on our expertise in all matters concerning energy efficiency and environmental management.

How is a DIN EN 16247-1 energy audit conducted?

First, there is an initial discussion of the documents from which various energy consumption data is derived. Next, we as energy auditors build up a comprehensive picture of the company, its equipment, its manufacturing operation and its energy consumption points. If necessary, we arrange for more measurements to be made. Based on this information, we prepare a comprehensive report. This includes an analysis of the energy consumption levels of each energy source and consumption point in use, a calculation of key figures to establish energy efficiency, and a set of concrete proposals for improving energy efficiency in the future. We explain our proposals in detail in a final presentation. We provide recommendations on how to save energy, how to prioritise energy efficiency measures and how to draw up action plans. We also provide our clients with information on specific funding opportunities.
