Energy audit

For all companies that do not fall under the UN definition of small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), the Energy Services Act (EDL-G) has stipulated since 2015, that an energy audit according to DIN EN 16247-1 must be carried out every four years. So, 2023 at the latest, is the year of the repeat audits! However, companies that lose their SME status between these four-year cycles must become active earlier. Alternatively, an energy management system according to ISO 50001 or an environmental management system according to EMAS can be introduced in the companies concerned. However, an energy audit independent of the EDL-G is also worthwhile for small and medium-sized companies. Only with the proof of a completed energy audit can they claim the peak compensation for electricity and energy tax.

The aim of the energy audit is to increase energy efficiency and reduce energy costs. Based on an analysis of the current energy situation, the energy audit in accordance with DIN EN 16247-1 – taking into account the respective framework conditions in operation – develops and presents suggestions for improvement to increase the energy efficiency of technical systems, devices or processes.
